Delivering Precision and Safety: AFS Completes Centralized 4-Gas Distribution System Installation

Introduction
At Al Fateh Systems (AFS), every project is an opportunity to demonstrate what precision engineering and a safety-first culture look like in practice. This month, our team completed the turnkey installation of a centralized 4-gas distribution system for a laboratory facility in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia — delivering on our commitment to reliability, compliance, and technical excellence.
Project Overview
The scope of this project covered the complete supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of a wall-mounted centralized gas distribution manifold system serving four critical laboratory gas lines:
Argon (Ar) — Widely used as an inert carrier gas in gas chromatography (GC) and analytical applications, argon provides a chemically stable environment for sensitive sample analysis.
Helium (He) — An ultra-high-purity carrier and detector gas, helium is essential in high-resolution chromatography and leak detection systems requiring exceptional sensitivity.
Zero Air — A hydrocarbon-free compressed air supply, Zero Air supports flame ionization detectors (FID) and baseline-sensitive analytical instruments by eliminating organic interference.
Hydrogen (H₂) — Used as both a fuel gas for FID detectors and as a carrier gas in certain GC methods, hydrogen requires the highest level of safety management — a standard AFS upholds on every project.
Technical Highlights
Each gas line in this installation was equipped with Vigour dual-stage high-purity regulators — a trusted choice in laboratory gas systems for their precision pressure control and compatibility with sensitive analytical instruments.
The key technical features of this installation include:
High-Purity Stainless Steel Distribution Headers — All gas manifolds and distribution tubing are constructed from 316-grade stainless steel, minimizing contamination risk and ensuring long-term performance integrity.
Individual Isolation Valve Assemblies — Each gas line is independently controlled with ball valves, allowing safe isolation and maintenance without disrupting the entire system.
Dual-Port Manifold Design — The manifold configuration enables cylinder changeover without interruption to laboratory operations, reducing downtime and maintaining consistent gas supply.
Pressure Monitoring — Inline pressure gauges provide real-time supply visibility, helping laboratory teams monitor cylinder levels and anticipate changeovers.
Secure Cylinder Restraint System — All cylinders are anchored with chain restraints in accordance with compressed gas safety standards, preventing tip-over hazards in the storage area.
Safety as a Standard, Not an Afterthought
At AFS, safety is engineered into every layer of our installations — not added as a final step. This project reflects that philosophy:
- Class 2 Hazardous Material Classification signage was installed for both compressed gas (green diamond) and flammable gas (red diamond) zones, in full compliance with international gas handling standards.
- A DANGER – Compressed Gas warning panel was prominently positioned to ensure clear communication of hazards to all facility personnel.
- Fire suppression provisions were confirmed on-site as part of our commissioning checklist.
- All hydrogen lines were installed with dedicated flammable-gas-rated fittings and components, ensuring the highest level of safety for this risk-critical gas.
This multi-layered safety approach reflects our alignment with international best practices and our responsibility toward the facilities and personnel we serve.
Why Centralized Gas Distribution?
Many laboratories still rely on individual cylinders placed directly at each instrument — a practice that creates logistical inefficiencies, increases safety exposure, and limits scalability as the lab grows.
A centralized gas distribution system changes this dynamic entirely:
- Fewer touchpoints — Cylinders are stored in a dedicated, controlled area rather than scattered across the lab floor
- Consistent pressure regulation — Instruments receive stable, regulated gas supply regardless of cylinder fill level
- Easier maintenance — Cylinders can be changed without entering instrument areas or interrupting active analyses
- Scalability — Additional instrument connections can be added to existing headers without redesigning the entire system
- Audit-ready infrastructure — Clear labeling, safety signage, and organized documentation support regulatory inspections
For laboratories running chromatography, environmental analysis, quality control, or materials testing, centralized gas is not just a convenience — it is a professional standard.
